Connecting a Squarespace domain to PledgeBox

Connect a domain or subdomain managed in Squarespace to your PledgeBox backer survey. Use the DNS records shown in your project's Connect Domain page.

Before changing DNS

Choose a hostname that is not already serving your website, such as survey.yourdomain.com. Using www or your root domain can change where visitors reach your existing website.

Keep the records used by your website, email and other services. Do not clear your DNS records. Save a copy of the current records before making changes.

1. Get the records from PledgeBox

  1. Open your Pledge Manager project.
  2. Click Connect Domain near the bottom of the left menu.
  3. Enter the domain or subdomain you want to use and continue to its verification screen.
  4. Read the required CNAME and TXT records.

The CNAME Name depends on your chosen hostname. For example, survey.yourdomain.com uses survey. Copy the values from your own project.

2. Open Squarespace DNS settings

  1. Sign in to Squarespace.
  2. Open Domains and select the domain.
  3. Open its DNS settings.

If another provider manages your domain's authoritative DNS, add the records there instead. See Squarespace's DNS record guide for its current interface.

3. Add the required records

  1. Add a CNAME record using the name and target shown in PledgeBox.
  2. Add the required TXT verification record. Copy its exact name and value from PledgeBox.
  3. Use the default TTL if your provider supplies one.
  4. Save the records.

Do not copy another project's verification value. The TXT name can appear as pledgebox._verification; use the value displayed for your project.

If a record already exists at the same hostname, check what uses it before replacing it. Choose an unused subdomain or ask your DNS administrator to resolve the conflict. Leave unrelated A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records unchanged.

4. Verify the connection

  1. Return to PledgeBox.
  2. Click Verify Connection.
  3. Follow any remaining steps shown by PledgeBox.

DNS changes take time to propagate. If verification fails, check the record type, hostname and value at your active DNS provider, then retry after propagation.
